Ayana Williams, M.Ed, LPC-A, ATR-P

Art Therapist

As a military child, I understand life's constant transitions and unique challenges on the

move. Art was my steady and comforting outlet, allowing me to express my emotions and

process the world in ways words couldn't always capture. I believe in the power of art to connect us and help us understand ourselves.

My journey with art, from a comforting outlet to a tool for self-discovery, inspired me to pursue a Master of Education in Art Therapy and Counseling. I am passionate about helping individuals, especially those from diverse backgrounds, use art to express themselves and understand their unique identities.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) with experience working with children and adolescents for ten years; I have worked in Private Practice with children ages 11-17 and in an inpatient hospital with adolescents and adults who use substances, are suicidal, and have many mental health disorders.

Each session uniquely suits my client's needs. I use creative expression as a powerful

tool to unlock personal insights, foster emotional well-being, and navigate life’s challenges.

Through art, mindfulness, positive reinforcement, and a little humor, I aim to empower my

clients to live fuller, more authentic lives using a client-centered, strength-focused approach.

Therapy is not a severe or daunting experience. By blending creativity with evidence-based

practices, I aim to create a space where clients can feel heard and empowered on their path to healing. Together, we will develop new, healthy ways to cope with life in a comfortable and non-intimidating environment.

Art Therapy

Art and creativity play a vital role in the healing process for individuals facing mental health challenges. These therapeutic tools offer unique ways to express emotions, manage stress, and foster a profound sense of self-discovery and personal growth. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its primary means of expression and communication. It’s particularly effective in helping individuals cope with emotional and psychological issues.

Benefits of Art Therapy in Mental Health:

  • Self-expression and Emotional Release: Art Therapy provides an outlet for expressing complex emotions, which can be particularly therapeutic for those dealing with depression, anxiety, or trauma.
  • Stress Reduction: Engaging in artistic activities lowers stress levels and promotes relaxation.
  • Improved Self-esteem and Confidence: Art projects can significantly enhance self-esteem and provide a profound sense of accomplishment, boosting confidence.
